Case study in detail

“Our business is fast: ordered today, delivered tomorrow. We cannot afford delays. With IDoc Monitoring from munich enterprise software, we are on the safe side.”

Sarah Markwalder
, responsible for SAP projects at Kuratle Group

With SAP IDoc Monitor, a module of the HotM SAP monitoring tools from munich enterprise software, the Swiss Kuratle Group immediately detects communication errors in data exchange between SAP and adjacent systems. Electronic business processes have thus been simplified and accelerated; Stumbling blocks that prevent timely processing of orders are removed in good time.

No more obligation to collect

As a long-standing SAP customer, the Kuratle Group uses intermediate documents (IDocs), the central SAP format for data exchange. In ordering, Kuratle connects customers and suppliers via IDocs. Specialists in the ordering system have always been in the debt to collect. They had to check if everything was working properly. If this was not the case, they only learned after feedback from the supplier that something had not arrived.
In the past, fortunately, this only affected a handful of employees in the ordering sector. But then Kuratle implemented a new third-party warehouse management system that also communicates with SAP via IDocs. Thousands of goods movements every month and a massively expanded circle of users then made it a problem that messages got stuck again and again or were not processed properly. This was already evident at the initial two locations connected to the storage system – and another seven were to follow. “That’s why we were looking for a way to better monitor, edit and administer IDocs. Our own, self-developed solution for SAP system and engineering monitoring does not include this special capability,” says Antonio Massaro from IT Application Support at Kuratle.
Since 2020, the SAP IDoc Monitor from munich enterprise software has been used for this purpose. “The solution fully covers our requirements. With the manufacturer specializing in niche products, we have a much better price-performance ratio than if we had to laboriously develop similar functions ourselves,” says Antonio Massaro.

IDoc Monitor does not intervene in SAP

The introduction was not a complex project: The IT team received an SAP transport, implemented it in the development system, then in the test system and finally in productive operation. “You can go live quickly with the software because it doesn’t interfere with the ERP system or change data. The IDoc Monitor only filters existing tables and delivers results. We also like the configuration options that allow us to adapt it to our own needs, such as the type of errors to be reported or the intervals at which reports are generated,” says Antonio Massaro, describing the main advantages of the solution.

1,700 alerts per month

Each mail from the IDoc Monitor contains an SAP logon that takes you directly to the list of the respective errors. Electronic business processes at the Kuratle Group have been simplified and accelerated by this fast reporting. If an IDoc gets stuck, the tool immediately informs the responsible persons from warehouse management, enabling them to react quickly. With HotM, they slip into a proactive role because nothing escapes them. IDoc Monitoring issues around 1,700 alerts per month.
Sarah Markwalder, responsible for SAP projects at Kuratle: “Our business is fast: ordered today, delivered tomorrow. We cannot afford delays. With IDoc Monitoring from munich enterprise software, we are on the safe side.” Due to its good experience with the solution, the Kuratle Group is currently also introducing the MailCenter from munich enterprise software and will use it to control all its e-mail communication from SAP in the future.

“The solution from munich enterprise software fully covers our requirements. With the manufacturer specializing in niche products, we have a much better price-performance ratio than if we had to laboriously develop similar functions ourselves.”
